IMPRESSIONS OF ELLA

Robin McKelle - Impression of Ella

It is clear that it takes an audacious talent to slip into the skin of the great singer Ella Fitzgerald. Robin has shown that she is ready to take up the challenge and recreates the world left behind by her fellow musician with this beautiful album, Impressions of Ella.

To help bring her concept to life, McKelle enlists a brand new trio of venerated jazz players: Kenny Washington on drums, bassist Peter Washington, and NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron on piano.

The album includes 11 classic tunes from How High the Moon” and “I Won’t Dance” featuring vocalist Kurt Elling as well as lesser known titles like Gershwin’s “My One and Only” and a playful tune called “Robbin’s Nest”. A little birdie told me there was a good reason for choosing this tune aside from the swinging scat solo.

Join Robin and her powerful voice as she interprets the music of an icon of 20th century music.
